From the research I've done, it seems not all folders came from the factory with the swivel on the side. You will see 3 different styles of gas blocks on folders and they are all "correct". I just saw a GB folder with a bottom mount sling sell on Gunbroker for over $2200.00. Just because the rifle didn't come from Ruger as a folder doesn't necessarily make it a "fake". Marcus, I would say if the gun is in nice shape and the price is right, go for it. No matter what, the AAC 556 owners seemed to have driven the price of the stock alone to over $800.00. Of course, the original box and paperwork will add value. In other words, I am not seeing that folders that are "certified by Ruger" selling for more money. The point I am trying to make is that seeing these guns sell on gun broker and at the gun shows, there is really a very small amount of collectors that check if the gun shipped from the factory as a folder or even care. The rifle is beautiful and "correct." I used to worry about this as well. It took me a while but I finally found mine - a 1985 factory produced stainless Mini 14 folder in excellent condition with the original serial numbered box, original paperwork and 5rd mag. Note that there may be nothing mechanically or otherwise wrong with a non-factory configured folder, it simply won't have the provenance of a factory-produced folder. They have been tremendously helpful in running S/N's for me and saved me from a few non factory folders. If you have the serial number of one that you are considering purchasing you can call Ruger and they might be able to look it up and tell you the configuration that it left the factory. You need to be careful and do your homework. non-factory folders and pay the former's price for an example which is the latter. The problem with attempting to ascertain prices for Mini 14 folders is that many buyers fail to distinguish between factory vs. ![]() Factory configured stainless folders, GB models were $1,500-1,800. Factory configured stainless folders were selling for $1,200-1,500. Factory configured blue folders, GB models were selling for around $1,200. Factory configured blued folders were going for around $1,000-1,200. Non-factory configured stainless folders are next at $900-1,100. Non-factory configured blued folders are at the bottom for $800-1,000.
